HA11: Task 1

Task 1 - Analysis

Write an illustrated blog article on the game genre that your chosen game belongs to. Use the work you produced in the last three assignments to assist in making a personal response to the genre using appropriate technical language. Remember that you are analysing the genre and not simply reviewing the games.

Using your chosen game and others within the genre:

Analyse the genre’s characteristics - the codes and conventions of the genre, the audience and purpose of the genre and how the genre has changed over a period of time.

Analyse the narrative structures – how does this allow the player to engage with the codes and conventions of the genre.

Analyse the representation of characters - consider issues such as how gender is constructed and represented, who is present or absent, and who is positively and who negatively represented within the genre’s narrative.

Ensure that you use the work you carried out into defining audiences, addressing audiences and their response to products to inform you. In addition, present your findings in an appropriate format, remembering the different options available to you when publishing to your blog, text, image, video and audio.

Remember that you are trying to present an analysis of a media product with supporting arguments and elucidated examples, and consistently using subject terminology correctly.

HA10 - Task 3

HA10 - Task 2

I think Modern Warfare 2 is overall a positive game for many people to play. Although Modern Warfare 2 has plenty of violence and some swearing in the game is non realistic which means the game is fake and just simulating what would happen in this time of a war. While playing, the game educates the player on showing what happens behind the scenes of what a war is like and to show the player what happens when there is an attack in a public place. With the game showing what war is like it has also shown people what happens when and before they apply to join the army. Although all events in the game are simulated it shows what happens when something  huge like an attack happens and also shows how much people are willing to go in order to stop the attackers. The game can also release the players emotional side for example if  your angry and you want to vent, you can take your anger out on the single player or multiplayer and kill people allowing you to vent in a simulation instead of doing something more dangerous allowing to hurt yourself like punching a wall or physically hurting someone else like a family member

With the game having a multiplayer mode this enables the player to play with up to 16 other players from around the world in a bunch of game modes like team deathmatch and free for all. The multiplayer mode also gives the player a rank while they play. If the player gets to its maximum rank which is 50 they can then do something which is prestige. Ranking up allows the players to compete against friends on who can be the top rank first. Doing this can make the player addicted as they can spend a numerous amount of days without doing anything else.

Many parents of gamers tend to argue on why games in these years are full priced at £50. With a game like Modern Warfare 2 offers 3 game modes (solo, multiplayer and spec ops), I would say that the game does deserve to have a £50 price tag to its name with solo and multiplayer being £20 each and spec ops being £10. Modern Warfare 2 also has a season pass which enables the player to play on all upcoming maps that get released which costs an extra £50

HA10 - Task 1

For this task I will be analyzing my chosen game ( Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2) i will be using the uses of gratifications to do this.

Entertain

I think the use of entertain is applied to my chosen game (Modern Warfare 2) because when playing the users are entertained and are enjoyed while playing the game, This could be bause the game has 3 game modes (Story, multiplayer and spec ops) for the players to enjoy themselves  with.

Social interaction.

I think the use and gratification of social interaction is applied to my game (Modern Warfare 2) because when the game is being played in its multiplayer and spec ops modes the game is able to be played with other players from across the world this meaning that the game is giving the players a chance to socialise with other players that speak different languages without leaving there T.V and house.

HA9 - Task 3

For this assignment i was told to deconstruct my chosen game and to see what the audience thought about it in more detail. when deconstructing my game i thought it was pretty simple because from the picture i deconstructed it from everything stood out. When deconstructing my game i had to look at the games genre, the codes and conventions, the selection of content and modes of address. These 4 subjects analised the game into more detail so we can see the reason the audience buy and play the game. For task 2 I was told to see what the audience thought of my chosen game, seeing as I chose Sam a friend from college it was easy to see what his thoughts were on the game as we like the same interests and have quite familiar similarities. From my deconstruction and Sams answers from the questions i asked him there were very small differences in his answers and my deconstruction. The thing i thing is mainly different  is the when he talks about having different weapons and he mentions the game Bioshock for the powers, I didn't think Bioshock could be compared to Call of duty because Call of Duty is about events that have happened and Bioshock is about a fantasy world.

HA9 - Task 2

For this task i have asked Sam Watts (18 and male)  some questions about my chosen game. I did this to see what his thoughts on the game were and to see if my deconstruction is true about 18 year old males. I also asked him to see what he thought makes a good first person shooter and the affect on what the game gives to its players.

What do you think makes a good first person shooter?

What about Call of Duty makes you buy the game?

How do you feel about how the game addresses the player?

What are your thoughts on the way Call of Duty has changed?

HA9 - Task 1

Genre description
The genre to Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is a first person shooter. A first person shooter is where you are in a first person perspective and have to shoot other enemies from certain objectives. A first person shooter is addressed as you playing as the character in a story driven campaign, This meaning that the other characters talk to you without you giving a response.

Selection of content
The picture for Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is a soldier that is surrounded by dust or sand. You can see something has exploded behind the soldier. This means that that game is going to have action involved with it. The soldier looks like he is wearing camouflage clothing so you can guess that the game is going to have a desert involved so that he can camouflage.

Construction of content
In the gameplay of the game you can see that the game is linear and requires you to do objectives in order to progress. In the trailers you can see that there is an enemy that wants to launch some type of nuclear weapon and it is your mission to stop them.

Codes and conventions
The text to the game is bold and green, The text is bold so that people buy it, The text is green because most of the time you will have to be tactical and the game is giving you that tactical feeling before you buy it,The green text looks like night vision goggles this is also giving it the tactical feeling.

Modes of address
In Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 the game is in a first person perspective, This means when the characters are talking to you they will you your first name in order to get your attention. The gameplay is also in first person perspective, This means that the game is will be through the characters eyes.
